VETERANS PROGRAM
Supporting Those Who Served.
Adaptive fitness. Continued progress.
A community that has your back.
The Fighting Back Veterans Program provides individualized adaptive fitness and a community of support for veterans living with life-changing injuries, illnesses and disabilities. Our goal is to help each veteran continue working toward meaningful physical and personal goals — and to remind them they are not alone.
OUR HISTORY
A Program Built on Partnership.
The Fighting Back Veterans Program began in 2013 as a pilot program following a feasibility study involving the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia VA. The program was created to provide a place for veterans to continue their recovery through adaptive fitness after formal rehabilitation ends.
Today, we are proud to support veterans through individualized training, encouragement and a welcoming community that understands the unique challenges they may face.
MIKE MYERS’ STORY
Strength, Connection and a Way Forward.
Mike Myers, a Navy veteran and 2023 Annual Achievement Night Honoree, began training with Fighting Back in 2019 while recovering from serious injuries. When the pandemic confined him to a nursing facility room, virtual training helped him stay active while supporting him mentally, emotionally and physically. Today, Mike continues working with trainer Heather Bakker both virtually and in person, finding consistency, connection and continued progress through training. This video was created to share Mike’s story at the 2023 Annual Achievement Night, where his determination and accomplishments were recognized and celebrated.
