Program Mission Statement

The mission of the Fighting Back Scholarship Program is to recognize and provide financial assistance for post-rehabilitative exercise to individuals who have suffered a life changing illness or injury and have endured that experience through courage, desire and perseverance.

The History of Fighting Back

In 1987 Scott Dillman created the Fighting Back Scholarship Program (FBSP) to fill the need between rehabilitation in a hospital setting, and community re-entry. Fighting Back (a fee for service program) is an individualized rehabilitative exercise program for people recovering from a life changing illness or injury. Within a medical setting, rehabilitation programs are covered by the patient's insurance. After that, people often find themselves without the insurance coverage or the financial resources necessary to continue the rebuilding process. Unfortunately, progress for many people often ends when the insurance runs out.

Realizing this problem, in 1989, Mr. Dillman created a scholarship program to assist those without the financial resources necessary to participate in the Fighting Back Program. The Fighting Back Scholarship Program bridges the financial gap for individuals who need to continue their rehabilitation but do not have the insurance coverage or the necessary finances.

All scholarships are awarded based upon financial need and the recipient must demonstrate the attributes consistent with our mission statement
